President's Message
September means going back to school and back to routines.  One of my highlights this summer was attending EFAM in Boston.  What a great city for a conference.  Boston is so rich in our country's history and just taking some time to sight see was awesome.  I visited several of the cemetaries, Boston landmarks, and Plymouth Rock.  We had 28 attendees from Michigan at EFAM.  We had a great time enjoying the Friends of Michigan dinner at FiRE + iCE, a Mongolian Bar-B-Q.  It was really noisy, but great food and fun.  We had 4 Michigan Division attendees as flag bearers this year.  They were:  Marie Ouzoonian, CPS/CAP (Kalamazoo Chapter); Kelly Reggio, CAP (Kalamazoo Chapter); Tara Rietberg (Grand Rapids Chapter); and Melissa Sundquist, CPS/CAP (Oakland County Chapter).  In addition, Kelly Reggio was elected to the RTF and appoiinted as the Chair of that committee.  Heather Thomas, CAP is on the International Bylaws & Standing Rules Committee, and Karen Kohn, CPS/CAP is the Great Lakes District appointee for the RTFC.

There were two great keynote speakers at EFAM: Vernice Armour was the first African-American female fighter pilot and gave a very inspiring keynote on her experiences and how to inspire us as administrative professionals.  The second keynote speaker was Erin Brockovich.  Her talk was funny, inspiring, and enjoyed by those in attendance.  Read more about what happened at EFAM by clicking here to download the Division delegate/alternate report.

Mary Ramsay-Drow's International theme is "Passion & Purpose."  Now as we begin this new IAAP year, please be sure to stay in contact with your MD board members as we strive to make this a great year.

With Passion & Purpose,
Marie A. Ouzoonian, CPS/CAP
Michigan Division President

MDEW 2010
WOW!  What a great MDEW and such a beautiful venue for it in Plymouth, Michigan, at The Inn at St. John's.  It was easy to find, great sessions, and yummy food.  We had 64 attendees.  Our sessions included: Goal Setting Techniques presented by Janine Riemersma, CAP (Immediate Past International Secretary); Heather Thomas, CAP (Immediate Past MD President) presented the Technology Update which was a user-friendly session on how to navigate the Community website, and a Leadership Session on Promoting Chapter and Division Involvement presented by the MD Team Leaders and MD Board Members.  For pictures of this event, click here.

Pathways to Excellence
At EFAM we were given the revised Pathways to Excellence sheets which now includes some mandatory criteria.  Click here and here to download the Pathways to Excellence Criteria sheets.  MD hopes to have many more members become a Member of Excellence (M.O.E.) and chapters to become Chapters of Excellence (C.O.E.).  The Michigan Division will be working hard to achieve for the 3rd year in a row the Division of Excellence (D.O.E.).

Certification Changes
Are you thinking of taking the Certification exam?  Well, now is a great time to consider it.  The International Board has made some changes to the Certification and Recertification process.  Click here to download the changes presented to EFAM.
