President's Message

March, in my world, means March madness. Not only am I a big fan of the NCAA basketball tournament, March madness seems to ring true in my life as well. There are many birthdays to remember. March is a crazy time at work planning our upcoming special programs. Also, it seems like a lot of my daughter's school events happen in March. That, on top of a busy IAAP month, it truly is March madness.

Watching last week's Michigan State tournament game on Sunday gave me inspiration for writing this message. For those who do not watch basketball, let me fill you in. Before half-time, Kalin Lucas, MSU's star guard and team leader, suffered a major injury to his ankle, taking him out of the game. It was pretty scary seeing him limp off the floor wondering if he would return. Instead of giving up and giving in, the team came together and stepped up their game. They battled their own injuries and fatigue through the second half. New leaders took charge and rallied their teammates. In the last seconds of the game, when it looked like they would lose, their backup guard, Korie Lucious scored the game winning basket as the game clock expired. It was AWESOME!

I relate that to IAAP! This has been a rough year in Michigan but I am continually amazed at how we as a division continue to work together in making sure we hold true to our mission. That is why this year's MDAM theme is "All Star Team." Everyone of you is an IAAP all star! Your commitment to IAAP and the Michigan Division benefits all of us! Keep up the great work and I hope to see everyone at our Annual Meeting in May and/or at one of the many wonderful chapter APW events throughout the division.

Keep shining! - Heather

Michigan Division Email Protocol

In our crazy world of emails that all of our fellow Michigan division members receive, we wanted to send a friendly reminder regarding email protocol regarding IAAP related messages.  Many division members have set up rules in their email clients to separate IAAP messages for later action.  The protocol that has been created includes the following:

In your subject line, please include IAAP -, followed by one of the following:

  • FYI (For Your Information)
  • URGENT
  • RR (for when a reply is requested)
  • NRN (for when no reply is needed)
  • ACTION (when action is needed by the recipient)

If you have any questions on these protocols, just contact any Michigan Division Officer. Thank you so much for your help!
